What to Expect Upon Arrival at Fantasy Quest

Arrival - When you arrive at the campground, follow the camp road all the way to the bottom of the hill. There are speed bumps on the hill; posted speed is 5 mph. You can arrive anytime after Noon on Friday.

Parking - Player parking for the event will be on the right side of the camp road just past the entrance - it should be marked by signs. This is where you'll park after unloading your vehicle at your cabin.

Cabin Assignments - Cabins are co-ed; you can bring tapestries/throw blankets/sheets to partition off a section of the cabin, such as the corner bunks if you and a friend are together. Cabins are also unheated; small space heaters may be brought (1 per cabin), and must be kept on half power. Cabin assignments are usually emailed to the registered players a week before the Event, or can be requested from FQregistration@FantasyQuest.org (Cabin Assignments are not set in stone - you can request a change before game by emailing us at the above address, or at game by speaking with one of the Check-In Coordinators or with a Director at Ops (Operations Cabin - cabin 6)). Find your cabin and select a bunk (1st come, 1st served).

  • • You may drive up to the front of cabins 4, 5, 7 & 8. Please be courteous to other players and staff working to set up - move your gear into your cabin in a timely fashion, so you can move your vehicle out of the way.

    • The bunks each have two beds, with 10 inches of clearance beneath the bottom one. Please remember that you are potentially sharing the under-bunk storage with someone else, so try to use only half of that space. The under bunk storage is considered Out-Of-Game (OOG).

    •  Please do your best to leave the aisles clear, especially prior to game when players are moving items inside. Keeping your Out-Of-Game (OOG) items safely stowed when not in use is a courtesy to those sharing your space during the game.

    • Once your gear is unloaded from your vehicle, please move your car to the upper parking lot. Please lock any items of value in your vehicle so they are not lost.

Dinner - if you didn't eat on the way up or bring it with you, there are several restaurants nearby that can provide food. It's up to you whether to check-in before or after, but please keep the New Player Meeting in mind while planning, and be certain to arrive at check-in no later than 7:30 pm. (If you require a late check-in please include that with your registration e-mail).

Check-In - Check-in begins around 5:00 pm in the Common House (Lodge).

  • You are a new player, and can move to the front of the line. You will need to bring all of your weapons and armor to check-in, but if you want to check in before you get dinner offsite, you do not need to be in costume.

  • You will need to fill out & sign a waiver form and a health information/contact form in front of a staff member. These forms are valid for the current year, but please let the check-in staff know if anything has changed.

    • Under 18's need their form signed by their parent (pg 1).

  • At check-in, you'll receive your character card, starting money, and any lore, rumors, etc.

  • Also at check-in, any weapons, shields, armor, etc. you may have will be inspected for safety issues.

New Player Meeting - This is a MANDATORY meeting, held in the Common House (Lodge) at 8:00 pm. A staff member will discuss the basic game mechanics and answer any questions you may have. Please come to this meeting ready to play the game (i.e. in costume, with all your gear).

Opening Meeting - This is a MANDATORY meeting, held in the Common House (Lodge) at 9:00 pm. The Keepers (the staff that run the game) will run a meeting to discuss any current camp hazards, general reminders, and to answer questions. It shouldn't take more than half an hour.

New Player Plot - At Game On (usually 10:00 pm), please meet outside of Ops (cabin 6) for a plot designed to introduce your characters to Town (or as otherwise instructed during New Player Meeting).

Suggested Packing List

  • Clothing - Medieval-style costuming - no logos, white sneakers, or blue jeans, (black or brown jeans are allowable, but not preferred).

    • Costuming - if you have only one costume to start, you might want to wear it over a shirt and thin pants. Be sure to bring a spare shirt and pants or two in case of rain. And, yes, rain is a fact of FQ life. Also bring any prosthetics, if needed for your character (e.g. elf ears, beard, etc.) & spirit gum.

    • Extra socks & back-up footwear - rain and puddles happen. 2-3 extra pairs of socks can make for a much more enjoyable event.

    • Extra undergarments - rain or exciting activity! Warm events can make changes of clothing just as desirable as rainy ones.

    • Thermal undergarments - the first and last events especially can be quite chilly - we have had snow on the last event in the past (and just before the first event).

    • Something to sleep in, unless you wish to sleep in your armor - although some people do (it can be safer when things go bump in the night).

    • Change of clothes for Sunday - If Friday is rainy/muddy, you may want some different clothes for travel home.

  • Hygiene Gear - there is an unheated restroom/bathhouse with warm water in the center of the camp (the "privies")

    • Towels

    • Water shoes/flipflops for the showers

    • Toiletry kit

    • Medicine - any prescriptions or over-the-counter you may need (a limited supply of OTC pain relievers and allergy medicines may be available at Ops) - refrigerator space is available for medications that need it.

  • Camping Gear - cabins are unheated, and the bunks each have a (thin) mattress

    •  Sleeping bag

    • Pillow  and any extra blankets you might need

    • Tent sites are available (a bunk is reserved for all players in case of inclement weather). Please contact us at FQregistration@FantasyQuest.org about camping if you're interested.

  • Snacks and Drinks - non-refrigerated - refrigerator space is not generally available - a continental (cold) breakfast is provided both mornings, with coffee and hot water, and a warm dinner is available for purchase for Saturday night - also, the Griffin's Landing Tavern & Inn is open at night with some food/snack options - no other food is guaranteed, although sometimes players/staff will provide hot breakfast and/or lunch

    • Water

    • Some form of electrolyte beverage or fruit juice - Gatorade/Propel/Vitamin Water/etc.

    • Snack food

    • Dinner (non-fridge type) if you don't wish to partake of the one provided Sat night
